Case Examples
Here are just a few selected examples to show how important it is to analyze individual cases for a customized training.
Asthma
As Asthma is a very common condition of riders, it serves as a good example how these chronic conditions inhibit their abilities. Correct breathing is fundamental for a balanced and relaxed seat.
Asthma patients use different muscles during an asthma attack. Many patients get used to those muscles and continue using them most of the time. This breathing pattern can cause muscles to cramp up around the shoulder area preventing the riders correct posture. Special breathing exercises can help the rider relearn to use the physiologically correct breathing muscles. As much as it helps the rider on the horse it will also improve their overall quality of life by reducing the risk of respiratory infection and can improve their energy level.
Back Pain
Back pain can be caused by many issues and their source can be in different areas along the spine. During their acute phase of back problems a compensatory posture often causes deficiencies that can lead later to issues for the rider. While it is not recommended to ride in pain the posture changes make it impossible to ride correctly which will frustrate horse and rider and often cause new pain for both of them.
Job Related Posture Issues
Many jobs require to be in an unnatural posture for 8 hours or more e.g. computer desk or assembly line. The body can adapt to those causing muscle and joint dyfunctions. You might not notice anything during everyday activities but they will seriously hinder the physiologically correct movement that is so important while riding. To help with this issue it has to be isolated and can be improved through targeted execises.
